Break the Winter Rut with a Weekend Getaway

The holidays are over and spring is as close as your imagination will allow. Thankfully Lovejoy Wharf has some solutions to beat the winter blues. With its convenient proximity to North Station, we’ve curated some weekend getaway ideas that will brighten the skies and ease the winter gloom.

Portland, ME

Catch the Amtrak out of North Station and arrive in Portland in just one hour. Rated Bon Appetit’s restaurant city of the year, Portland’s eateries offer everything from oyster shacks to Michelin Star restaurants. The New England city is also known for its collection of craft breweries. Whether you hop on the Maine Brew Bus or stroll from brewery to brewery, most craft companies are open for tours year-round. If craft beer and food are not convincing enough, stop by Exchange Street for shops that exhibit products from local artists and makers. You can easily spend an entire weekend exploring this city, and with so many boutique hotels to choose from, why not?

Cape Cod, MA

Forget about terrible traffic and hour-long waits at restaurants. In the winter, the Cape is all yours. Hop on a bus from South Station for an hour and a half ride to Massachusetts’s famous Cape Cod. Drop by the Pop-Up Artisan Market in Hyannis, saturated with local food, beer, live music and handmade trinkets. After indulging, stay at the Sea Street Inn and cozy up next to a roaring fire with the classic vodka drink, a Cape Codder. The Cape is certainly not reserved for couples, round up your friends and escape the city. Enjoy amazing vistas and relieve the winter blues.

The Mountains

Ditch the city and hit the slopes. For those looking for a quick day trip, catch the Ski Train from North Station to Wachusett Mountain. With more than 25 trails, Wachusett offers rentals, lessons, and plenty of food and drink options. The mountain is open seven days a week through late March. For those that want to get out of Massachusetts, grab your car from the Valet and jump on I93 North directly outside of Lovejoy towards Vermont. The Killington Ski Mountain has upwards to 122 trails and was voted, “The Best of the East.”
