Lawless Design
How would you describe your interior design style in 5 words? Fresh, Simple, Modern

What was your main inspiration behind your design for the Lovejoy Wharf condo? Boston is such a unique, lively city that has so much pride in and of itself. I wanted my design to take elements of the city, rustic, modern, upscale, and incorporate them into the space. The space has great views, and I wanted to maximize on that by keeping with a light, airy feel. Plants are always a go-to of mine for adding final touches. I think they really just bring the room together and add that extra something, so you'll see them everywhere.

Did you have a client in mind while you designed this space? What was the vibe/aesthetic you were going for? I really just pictured my ideal client, and designed it for them in mind. It's for someone who enjoys coming home and relaxing with a glass of wine, and just wants to kick their feet up after a long day in the city. I have such an eclectic mix of styles that I love fusing together, but mainly I wanted my design to exhibit a relaxed, modern, loft-like feel.

What part of your design for Lovejoy Wharf are you most excited about? That Anthro coffee table. I’m a sucker for a cool casework piece.

The Lovely Locale
How would you describe your interior design style in 5 words? My interior design style is bohemian, modern, purposeful, curated, and holistic.

What was your main inspiration behind your design for the Lovejoy Wharf condo? My main inspiration was the energy of the city and the shift that we are seeing as Boston evolves. I wanted to create something that will be timeless while also feeling fresh + in line with what’s happening in design today.

Did you have a client in mind while you designed this space? What was the vibe/aesthetic you were going for? I pictured a young professional couple living here + enjoying all of the amenities that Lovejoy, and living downtown have to offer. At the same time, I knew they would want to have a space to welcome them home after a long day, and be an oasis for them, while also being a place for entertaining. I designed with different textures + neutrals, with pops of color, to create a cozy feel. I really wanted the space to already feel lived in, and not so staged, so I added personal elements that the couple would actually have in their home.

What part of your design for Lovejoy Wharf are you most excited about? I’m most excited for all of the little details that will be in the space, making it feel like home. I also wanted to incorporate the community into this unit, so I chose accessories + small elements that were created in + around Boston to add that personalization.

Desiree Burns

Desiree Burns Designs
How would you describe your interior design style in 5 words? Transitional use of modern-earthy materials.

What was your main inspiration behind your design for the Lovejoy Wharf condo? I wanted to bring a different perspective to what Boston design style is. I spent a lot of time in California and wanted that cool-California chic style to translate into this design, while still staying true to what Boston is.

Did you have a client in mind while you designed this space? What was the vibe/aesthetic you were going for? I designed for an on-the-go couple in their 40's who like to explore the city and dine out in fancy restaurants. They are practical yet enjoy the finer things in life. The vibe I was going for was transitional, earthy-modern. I wanted the bedroom to be sleek and sexy yet still earthy and cozy. For the living room, it was all about fusing style and comfort. Incorporating just enough color and texture to make it interesting.

What part of your design for Lovejoy Wharf are you most excited about? I’m excited to be a part of creating something special in such an innovative and gorgeous property. I LOVE seeing a design come to life and I can’t imagine a better environment to be inspired by!

Sarah Burgess

Sarah Burgess

Sarah’s love of design started as a child, in her grandmother’s Florida retirement community. Here she was surrounded by beautiful family heirlooms + objects that had been collected from years of travel. After graduating from Endicott College with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, Sarah took the corporate route right out of college, where she was able to realize her true passion for working with people and bringing their visions to life. All of these experiences continue to inspire Sarah’s designs today. Her style is bohemian modern and she loves mixing California cool vibes, with her native New England, allowing her to combine new + vintage pieces. She believes each home should feel lived in, rather than like a model home. Curated + collected, rather than staged. When she’s not working, you can find Sarah exploring a new neighborhood with tote + camera in hand.
